Create the shift policies first. A roster has its own name, branch, policy, date range and working days. Its name identifies the team schedule; the policy name identifies the working-hour rules.
For a morning and evening team, create separate policies and rosters. Back-to-back shifts are allowed, but overlapping scheduled times for one person are rejected, including overlaps in different branches.
1. Define the roster period
Open Attendance policies → Shift rosters.
Choose Add roster.
Enter a useful roster name, select the branch and policy, then choose the start and end dates.
Choose the working days within that period.
Review the hours and dates before saving or submitting the request.
2. Add the people who will work
An empty roster can remain available for later assignments. Adding people after a roster has started adds future shifts; it does not invent earlier attendance.
When a person’s first roster takes effect, it replaces their regular schedule from that date. Dates with no rostered shift become days off. A roster ending does not automatically reactivate their regular schedule.
Use the people-selection step when creating the roster, or open the roster card’s action to add people afterward.
Search and select the eligible employees.
Confirm the assignment and review the result beside each person.
Check the roster card and Daily attendance after confirmed saves.
Resolve an overlapping shift
Read the conflict beside the person’s name. It identifies the conflicting roster or shift, branch, exact date/time range and time zone when you have access.
Compare that period with the new assignment, including any hours after midnight.
Change the new roster dates or policy, or edit the conflicting assignment if it is wrong.
Retry only the people who did not save. Do not assume a bulk action failed for everyone.
Keep future coverage ready
Review roster end dates ahead of time and publish the next period before it starts. Rename a roster from its card when the team label changes. Individual assignment edits may create a separate roster with the existing name, so check the dates and branch as well as the name.
An overnight shift belongs to the date it starts in the branch time zone. Someone working Monday night into Tuesday morning should look for Monday’s shift.
